Yes! Organic is now the Fairlawn Market

Art of War Concept: Therefore a wise general strives to feed off the enemy. Each pound of food taken from the enemy is equivalent to twenty pounds you provide by yourself.

It appears Yes! Organic Market has made its transition from an organic grocery store to a more traditional neighborhood grocery store. The new name is Fairlawn Market. I took a trip over last week and got a totally different feel. No longer are the shelves lined with only organic products. Now there are products that we have all become familiar with while visiting your average grocery store. From Honey Nut Cheerios, Texas Pete Hot Sauce Sauce to Kraft Cheese, if you name it, it is there!

The general manager says the goal is to get the store to a 20, 20, 60 ratio. Meaning they want to carry 20% organic products, 20% gourmet food (rotisserie chicken, prepared cheeses) and 60% conventional grocery store products. The percentage of organic products will depend on customer demand. So for all fans of organic foods please see the general manager if there are products you would like to see them to carry. He also mentioned that they are no longer going to spend money to advertise in the major newspapers. At one time they were spending $5,000 per month on ads. Now they are going to put that money to stocking store shelves with consistent fresh produce.

I did not have time to do a price comparison with Giant or Safeway, but the manager did mention that the prices are competitive. So if you are looking to avoid the long lines and crowds of Safeway or Giant, you should definitely consider shopping at Fairlawn Market. Time is Money, so it may be worth it.

Charles' Personal Note: In my efforts to inform you of the changes in the products at the new Fairlawn Market, my photos have highlighted items that are not healthy choices. I know our community really suffers the effects of unhealthy eating and in the last year I have learned what it really means to eat healthy. It was only 2 years ago that during a doctors appointment that I was told I have high cholesterol at age 35.  So when you visit the Fairlawn Market be sure to encourage management to offer organic items and try to add healthier food options to your grocery cart.

  1. Went there last week. I was so underwhelmed and unimpressed. I was a regular shopper when it was YES dropping $100+ each visit. My most recent visit I barely spent $30 b/c there wasn't much for me to purchase. The produce looked like it had seen better days (maybe I went on a pre-restock day). Honestly it's become a classy corner store.

I recognize there wasn't enough of people like me who regularly spent money when it was YES that they had to reinvent themselves. Seems if we want to have healthy options in our communities it has to be a balance of providing the option in conjunction with educating our community about healthy eating/nutrition.

I wish them best of luck. I'd go back for wine and to see what else they have time to time, but don't seem myself as a regular like before.

  3. What isn't mentioned here is that Fairlawn still has the good beer and wine selections that Yes Market had, along with a reduced amount of bulk items still for sale. I may not go there quite as much as previously, but it still offers some good things for East of the River. However, I do mourn Yes Market.
